It wasn't always this way for me. I was a frustrated primary school teacher who didn't understand spelling well.  I wanted to do better for my students. 
 
After many years of further study and research when I was a lecturer at Melbourne Uni, SMART Spelling was developed.  It was released to everyone in 2015 and is now used (and loved) by thousands of teachers, all across Australia.  

  

It just makes so much sense.

 

Let me show you a weekly routine to teach spelling that is simple, easy and fun!  We don't overcomplicate things.  We teach the meaning of words to expand vocabulary and then break words into syllables, sounds and letter patterns (graphs, digraphs and trigraphs).

 

I'll also show you a powerful routine to give students meaningful feedback on spelling errors in their own writing.  You'll love being able to explicitly teach individual students at their point of need.

 

About the Course

 

We focus on what's most important.  The practical stuff.  What to actually do in your classroom.  The course is super easy to follow with 48 pages of notes.
 
We'll spend the equivalent of a whole school day together finding out how to improve the teaching of spelling.  To make it easy for you, the course is pre-recorded so you can do it at any time you like.  Most teachers like to finish the course in one day but it suits others to break it up over a few days or even weeks. You'll have a month of access from the time you order.  
 
You can refine your knowledge by asking me questions. Just type them under the videos.  You can also read other people's questions and my answers too!

 

About the Manual

 
The manual is a printed 263 page, coil bound book. Teach explicitly with confidence.  The words are broken up for you.  It includes a Foundation - Year 6 scope and sequence and a huge resource of spelling words to save you time!
 
You don't actually need a manual with you to do the course but you will need a manual to implement the SMART Spelling approach in a classroom.
